Friends of Cornish Hill

A small but active group of volunteers called The Friends of Cornish Hill, coordinate an ongoing program of work to remove the weeds from sections along Smiths Creek. With considerable support from Federal, State, local government as well as community organisations and readily available advice from many people including contractors Goldfield Weed management, Wild Plants in Ballarat, Roger Thomas and Tanya Loos, both noted flora and fauna experts, the area being restored continues to increase. The Friends of Cornish Hill are focussed on protecting existing flora especially the wildflower patch, plant local species where appropriate, enhancing Smiths Creek as part of the catchment of Wombat creek, maintaining the naturally occurring grasslands, removing pest weeds in designated areas and promoting an understanding and appreciation of native bushland as habitat for native birds and animals.
